PRIME TIME Head Start centers open in Ouachita Parish
On June 26, PRIME TIME Head Start officially opened its doors to children and families in Ouachita Parish. Both the Robinson Place and Ransom sites are filled with three- and four-year old children who are actively learning and growing. The local community continues to engage with the program.
On the first day of school, State Senator Mike Walsworth assisted with the afternoon pick-up traffic flow. Bountiful Foods in Monroe is serving as the current food vendor and is providing nutritious meals and snacks as the children serve themselves via family style dining.
Enrollment at the two centers stood at 75.1% on July 10, and the average daily attendance is 88% for the summer session. On June 27, the Monroe City School Board signed the agreement for PT HS to utilize space at Martin Luther King Middle School. PT HS will open this third site in the fall after the completion of renovations.
Over the next three weeks, children will complete onsite health and developmental screenings. “I am thoroughly impressed with the engagement from the entire PT HS team and the reactions and comments that we are receiving from our families,” said PT HS director Stalanda Butcher. “On the first day of school, a grandmother stated that ‘everything is so nice; I am very proud.’ Statements like this truly place a smile upon my day. Our children and families deserve the best.”
