Shell Oil Company’s Commitment to Education Tops $1 Million

In an extraordinary demonstration of commitment to education across the Gulf South, Shell Oil Company has invested $200,000 for The Shell Oil National PRIME TIME Initiative: Continuing the Transformation of Classrooms into Critical Thinking Hubs for Teachers and Students Across the Gulf South States. This grant enables PRIME TIME Family Reading Time to deliver its research-validated programs for children, families, and educators in high-need locations across five states.

The combination of services engages children in their formative first years of school, giving them a “level playing field” with other students, while further supporting their skill development and confidence. These children are further encouraged by teachers trained in the same PRIME TIME open-ended questioning style, which stimulates critical thinking and active participation in classroom discussions.

This is the sixth year that Shell has funded PRIME TIME, steadily expanding into Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida, with a total commitment of $1,200,000. The LEH is extraordinarily appreciative of Shell’s confidence in and commitment to PRIME TIME and to enhanced education for families across the Gulf South.

PRIME TIME programs take place in schools, libraries, Head Start Centers and other community-centered locations, and are scheduled through an application process. For additional information visit: www.primetimefamily.org.
